(EPA Photo)ISTANBUL: A Turkish opposition newspaper published a "May 19 Press Freedom Special Edition", left blank in protest against the detentions of some staff members by the country's increasingly authoritarian government. Saturday's edition of Sozcu carried empty columns with writers' names, and even left the weather report blank. It was a response to the detentions on Friday of Mediha Olgun, the editor of the Sozcu website, and reporter Gokmen Ulu. Sozcu is a staunch supporter of the secular legacy of Turkey's founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and a sharp critic of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his government.
